Information For Authors

IIITB Press, in partnership with De Gruyter-Brill, invites scholars, researchers, and practitioners to contribute to our growing catalog of high-impact academic works. We seek manuscripts that push the boundaries of technology, society, and policy, reflecting the interdisciplinary spirit of the International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore.

1. Manuscript Categories

We are interested in receiving proposals for the following types of publications:

  • Research Monographs: Original, in-depth research providing a significant contribution to a specific field of study.
  • Edited Volumes: Collections of essays or papers by multiple contributors, centered around a cohesive and timely theme. Conference proceedings will be treated as edited volumes.
  • Advanced Textbooks: High-level educational materials designed for graduate and postgraduate curricula, particularly those bridging the gap between theory and emerging industry practices.
  • Case Studies & Policy Blueprints: Rigorous analyses of digital transformations, Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), or technological interventions in social systems.
  • Interdisciplinary Works: Projects that explore the intersection of ICT with humanities, ethics, law, or ancient knowledge systems.

2. The Publication Workflow

The journey from a concept to a global publication follows a structured, quality-controlled process:

  1. Initial Inquiry & Proposal Submission: Authors submit a formal Book Proposal Form (BPF) outlining the scope, target audience, and competitive landscape.
  2. Editorial Desk Review: The IIITB Press Editorial Board conducts an internal review to ensure the proposal aligns with the Press’s mission and academic standards.
  3. Peer Review: If the proposal passes the desk review, it is sent for external double-blind peer review. Authors are typically asked to respond to reviewer feedback.
  4. Contracting & Royalty Negotiation: Upon approval, a formal publishing contract is issued. This includes the finalization of financial terms and royalty structures.
  5. Manuscript Development: The author completes the full manuscript with guidance from the Press on formatting and copyright permissions.
  6. Production & Distribution: De Gruyter-Brill manages professional copyediting, typesetting, and global distribution across digital and physical platforms.

3. Financial Terms & Royalties

IIITB Press is committed to a fair and transparent relationship with its authors.

  • Royalty Structure: Authors are entitled to royalties typically ranging between 8% and 10% of net sales revenue, which will be paid directly by De Gruyter Brill.
  • Negotiation: The specific percentage is negotiated individually for each project. These terms are determined based on the nature of the book proposal, the projected market reach, and the complexity of the manuscript. Final terms are codified during the contracting phase.

4. Submission Timelines

IIITB Press accepts proposals on a rolling basis throughout the year. There are no fixed deadlines for general submissions, allowing authors to submit their work when it is most mature.

For Special Series or Thematic Collections related to specific institutional initiatives or conferences, dedicated "Calls for Proposals" will be announced on this page with specific deadlines.

5. How to Submit

Prospective authors should prepare a proposal package including:

  • A completed IIITB Press Book Proposal Form.
  • A preliminary Table of Contents with brief chapter abstracts.
  • A sample chapter (if available) or a detailed writing sample.
  • A current Curriculum Vitae (CV) of the author(s) or editor(s).

All inquiries and proposal packages should be directed to the Editorial Office. We aim to provide an initial response to all proposals within 4–6 weeks.
